Gilmore Girls: Thoughts

Warning: This post is for those of you who love Gilmore Girls like me, all you other people need to start watching STAT!

As most of you know, we (sniff) recently canceled our cable. My hands have grown weak from sadness after typing that last sentence. Unfortunately this new life change happened to coincide with my break from school, the only time all year that I could really dedicate to watching a ton of TV.
Yes I could have been productive, however I chose the road less traveled and watched all 7 seasons of the Gilmore Girls again. After this total immersion, I have a few thoughts regarding ol' Stars Hollow and would love some input from you other GG fans (GG stands for Gilmore Girls, not GG as in Georgia from season 4-7).

Here is the list:

1) I am in constant turmoil about who I like best for Lorelei: Luke, Chris, Jason, or Max. I used to like Chris the best, but after watching everything over again I pick Max. My last pick is Luke for many reasons, he has a serious nose-breathing problem, he is always grouchy, and his hair needs some serious work (it is fluffy and in disarray every time the hat comes off).

2) Is anyone else bothered by Luke's loud nostril/back of the throat breathing? Did I mention he is a loud breather? Deviated septum perhaps???? HELP!

3) I don't like the way Rory's character develops throughout the seasons. For the last two seasons I am totally shocked by the company she keeps. She hangs out with Logan's rich, entitled and annoying friends, people she would have found revolting in previous years.

4) In contrast I LOVE Paris, she gets funnier and funnier as the years roll on.

5) I don't like Logan, I know weird, but I can't help it.

6) When I watch Gilmore Girls I somehow believe that I have the same metabolism as Rory and Lorelei and I too can eat garbage and still remain stick skinny (hah like I am stick skinny in the first place!)

All right discuss...

I am a GG lover as well. The issues at hand: About the right man for Lorelai...I did NOT like Jason because he came across as a sleeze ball. I liked Chris, but he was unstable. I like Luke, and was happy with the ending, but I was in love with Max when he came on the scene. They loved each other so very much. Why couldn't they have been happy together?

I thought Rory's character went down the toilet when she had the affair with Dean. It seemed so against her character. And, even though they showed her being ashamed for a second, she still kept it up and encouraged Dean to dump his wife. And I didn't like Logan one bit. He never grew on me. Ever.

Paris did get funnier and more enjoyable. I liked her crafts phase.

My favorite relationship in the whole series was Suki and Jackson. It was cute. And I loved the Lane and Dave thing, and was disappointed when Dave left to be on the O.C. Not cool, Dave.

I never noticed the mouth-breathing, but I will now.

I too loved Lane and Dave! I was very sad when he left for the O.C. too. Although I love Zach because he is hilarious, I never really believed him and Lane together.

1) I think I am torn about who is best for Lorelei too. Max is good, but in some seasons I like Luke best, despite the nose breathing (which I never noticed)!

I was disappointed in the change of Rory's character also, with the affair and becoming a rich girl. I hate the season where her and Lorelei don't talk at all.

I agree with you about Paris, she is sooo funny. Especially when she becomes poor. I can't decide if I like Logan or not. I did like how he proposed at the end and was a little surprised how Rory seemed indifferent about him, that she could break up with him and let him go for a lame internet reporting job. It didn't sync with the rest of the seasons where she can't live without him. Mostly I liked him because Rory does!

I love the series!

I think I may see you today! That should be fun. I hope you can find my house ok!

1. Max . . . seriously?!
2. Never noticed
3. I disagree, but your comment reminds me of the article Rory writes after Logan's company party in the last season. Mocking a world she has become a part of even though she thinks she's on the outside still.
4. I hated Paris in the beginning, but also loved her by the end.
5. I LOVE Logan. I'm not sure we can be friends.
6. Watching GG ALWAYS makes me want to eat.

Wow. You've really made me think about things I've never really thought about, especially about who's best for Lorelei.

1.I guess I always assumed that Luke was the best one for her because they seemed to have set it up from the beginning of that show that they were meant to be. And they'd been friends for so long. But I think just in terms of who made her the most happy, I'd go with Max for sure. I think the biggest problem with their relationship was that they moved WAY TOO fast. Why did they have to get engaged so soon?! They by far had the most uncomplicated relationship of all the ones she had on the show.

2. I never noticed Luke's breathing. But I'll definitely be listening for it next time, because I'm pretty sure that once I notice it, it will drive me CRAZY!

3. I agree with you 100% about Rory. I stopped being a loyal fan once season 4 ended. I really felt like they compromised her character just to add some drama to get better ratings. Such a SHAME! And, yes, I was shocked by who her friends were by the end of the show. I felt like she really sold out.

4. I LOVE Paris.

5. I have never liked Logan. My favorite episode is the one when Rory, Logan and Jess go out together. I really liked how Jess turned out. I know he was kind of a Jerk. But I LOVED him. I always secretly hoped he and Rory would hook up again after he matured a little. Logan always annoyed me.

6. And it's so funny that you mentioned the pigging out thing becuase I've ALWAYS thought the same thing! Hahaha! They make overeating seem perfectly normal. There's actually an interview in one of the special features where Lorelei says that no, they do not eat that much in real life. If they did, they'd basically be fat cows :P

This was such an awesome post idea! I started watching season one again last week. I'll probably end up watching them all!

I secretly hope they make a Gilmore Girls movie and Rory and Jess get together, I think they are MFEO. Jess was out of control, but also love the way he turned out.

I am a little ashamed to be commenting on this blog but oh well, we don't have cable any more, so here we go...
1. None of the above. The absolute best relationship that Lorelei was in was with Alex.(Sookie's
friends business partner). Short lived, I know.
2. I'm sort of a loud talker, so no, Luke's nostril issue does not bother me so much.
3. Rory's character changes a lot by the end of the show, and not for the best.
4. Paris is funny, but some times a little over the top for me.
5. I have a secret man crush on Logan. There its out there, and I don't care.
6. Any one for Al's Pancake world?
P.S. This is Adam, not Angela

1. OMG...I've always LOVED Max Medina. My favorite episode is "A Thousand Yellow Daisies” where he sent Lorelai a thousand yellow daisies to propose. I admit…I still cry when I watch that episode. Ever since I saw that episode I’ve dreamed of a thousand yellow daisies. They could have been so good together!
2.Never noticed, but hate Luke for many other reasons; he’s grumpy, not funny, he wears that gross green jacket for seven years, his hair is disgusting, and he is not good enough for our Lorelai.
3. Agreed. Rory turns into a whiny brat.
4. I could take or leave Paris. She is better in the later years; however, still a bit annoying.
5. I have also hated Logan for many years. I’m just SO glad they didn’t get married at the end. How lame would that have been? If they do make a movie I wonder if he will be in the picture.
6. You are skinny in the first place, and I think the next time you are in town we should do a GG movie night complete with pizza, ten bowls of candy, and two gallons of ice cream.

Oh Gilmore Girls…how do I love thee, let me count the ways.

Angela, this is Aimee (Pierce, now Stirling) from London study abroad...

I found you through Julie, Nancy...you get the picture. I had to comment on this post because I am a HUGE GG fan. These are my thoughts:

First of all, is everyone forgetting Rune? Could a better soulmate exist for Lorelai?! Just kidding. I really think Luke is right for Lorelai. He can put up with and keep up with her randomness and wit. Max was an awesome guy, and maybe the kind of guy some of us would like, but they would have really struggled. He only proposed in the first place because they were fighting! And they had such different views on parenting (like when Rory and Dean were "saying goodbye" outside on the porch). Since Lorelai has eluded to the possibility of more children with the right guy, this could be a problem. Chris just never quite fit in for me, Jason was too cynical. So Luke it is. Besides, he's funny. :)

I did not like Logan. I agree that Rory acted very out of character with him and his friends. I was so sad when she and Jess almost got back together in college and she couldn't go through with it because she loved Logan. Oh please. Even better, I think in that scene, Jess was wearing a t-shirt with Rory's picture on it! But as for Rory's other college friends, I loved the two drama girls, Olivia and oh, what's the girl's name who was dating Marty?

Love Paris. I just watched the episode when they graduated from Chilton and she told Headmaster Charleston "No hard feelings". Classic. My other favorite is, "Paris, did anyone call?" "Yes, 4 other people called to ask me to tell you to bite me." And what exactly is a "putch" or however you spell it?

As for the food, wouldn't it be nice to be them! I especially love the crazy birthday parties they have for each other, when they go to Friday night dinner, and THEN go eat and eat at their own parties!

Long live GG!

AIMEE! The phonecall quote is my FAVORITE Paris moment of all the seasons! My husband and I rewind it over and over and laugh because it is HILARIOUS!

Darling,
I want you to come move to AZ right now. The house is in East Mesa near University and Gilbert. If they accept our offer, we will have 2 extra rooms right now. One for you and Adam and one for us to do our morning Brittney Spears and NSYNC wake up call! Miss you.
